After capturing the Prequalifier event in Santo Domingo, they have set their eyes on the Qualifier for the Jr Davis Cup in Orlando, Florida. Pictured from left, Jackson Mactaggart, William McCartney and Jerald Carroll, who were successful along with Coach Spencer Newman in the Dominican Republic, winning over Guatemala in the semifinals and Trinidad and Tobago in the finals. The Bahamas achieved this level of success in 2011 when we won the first Prequalifier in El Salvador. At that time, the team consisted of Shaquille Taylor, Kevin Major Jr and Christian Cargill. They were captained by Coach Bradley Bain.
Now, 13 years later, the talented trio of Jackson Mactaggart, William McCartney, and Jerald Carroll have booked their tickets by capturing the championship in the Dominican Republic and will now play in the Qualifier on Wednesday. The team will face Canada, Mexico and the United States. The team coach is Philip Major. The competition is slated for April 17th-19th, 2024.
The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association(BLTA) congratulates the young men once again on a great performance and on capturing the Prequalifier last month. This is the 5th team the BLTA has arranged for international team competition for the year, and we wish them great success as they display their talent on this global stage. We know William, Jackson, and Jerald will represent their country well. Let’s root them on the Bahamas!
