Since the late 1970s, Mickey has been actively involved in recreational tennis, alongside participating in a range of sports like bowling, softball, soccer, and field hockey. Joining the Council of BLTA (Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association) as an Assistant Treasurer in the late 1980s, Mickey progressed through various roles within BLTA, culminating in his presidency from 1992 to 1995.
A significant milestone was his involvement in establishing the regional organization COTECC during the ITF AGM in Santo Domingo in 1993. Additionally, he earned a Bronze badge as a chair umpire in 1992, leading to appointments at esteemed tournaments globally, including two Olympic Games, numerous Grand Slams, various ATP and WTA Tour events, and ITF men’s and women’s tournaments.
Following his retirement from chair umpiring in 2009, Mickey continued to contribute as an international Referee until concluding his international duties at the end of 2022. As a founding Director of the National Tennis Centre (NTC) under Kit Spencer’s presidency, he oversaw its construction, completed in 1999, and subsequently remained a Director under various Presidents.
Currently, Mickey is focused on training and developing the next generation of Bahamian umpires. Mickey says that it was a tremendous honor to be inducted into the Bahamas Sports Hall of Fame for Tennis in 2018.
