The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) has fielded the first two teams travelling for international competition for the 2024 Tennis season: the Junior Billie Jean King Cup (BJKC) and the Junior Davis Cup. The two teams will face competition starting Monday, February 26th, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Representing Team Bahamas for the Jr BJKC are Tatyana Madu, BreAnn Ferguson, and Takaii Adderley. Representing the Jr Davis Cup are William McCartney, Jerald Carroll, and Jackson Mactaggart. William, Jackson and Jerald were finalists in the U14 World Juniors Championship a few years ago, and the trio possess good talent, chemistry and synergy. Tatyana, BreAnn and Takaii will be playing as a team for the first time, and they also possess the skill and talent. The teams are captained by Larikah Russell (Jr BJK) and Spencer Newman (Jr Davis Cup). Larikah is a former national team coach and Billie Jean King Cup player. This is Spencer’s debut as a national team coach. Newman was the Bahamas’ 2021 National Champion and last represented on the Davis Cup in 2022.
The BLTA will be fielding 4 teams for international tennis competition over the next two weeks: 1) The Junior Billie Jean King Cup (Jr. BJKC) 2) The Junior Davis Cup (Jr. Davis Cup), 3) and 4) the World Juniors Girls and Boys teams. The next two teams are set to compete the following week in El Salvador.
