The BLTA recently received a $7,000 donation from The Right Honorable Tommy Turnquest and his Friends, as a result of their last year one day Grill and Chill Tennis Tournament. The tournament was a one day Saturday tournament, and lasted all day. The Minister Turnquest said he felt obligated to give back to a sport that has given him and his friends so much, and this was a small token of his appreciation. His inspiration was also due to the fact that he recognized the vast amount of Bahamain Talent we have, and he and his friends wanted to do their part in helping to develop the younger tennis players. The tournament format has a doubles format only, and is very competitive, as some of the best local players compete. The Tournament was very successful, and as result of the last tournament it is expected to grow even larger this October. Board Members of the tournament are Minister Turnquest, Ken Kerr, Greg Boneym, Stephen Thompson, Wesley Rolle (Past President of BLTA), and Mr. Stephen Turnquest ( President of The BLTA), thanked the Friends of Tennis and assured them that the funds received would be well spent, and would go a long way in helping to development our future Bahamain Tennis Stars. The next Tournament is scheduled for October. Please contact Mr. Stephen Thompson for more information.
